Editorial Services

Did you know that at this publishing house, every person on staff does this job because we love it and not because it makes us money? Many of us are teachers, authors, scholars, and editors in our day jobs. Yep, that's pretty cool. Unlike most publishing houses that have all of these wonderful editors on board and never let them do any freelance editing or side work. We don't like that idea. At Unsolicited Press, we offer a range of editorial services including a professional editing package. Writers soliciting editorial services are NOT eligible for submission. We do not charge, and never will charge, contracted authors for editing services -- editing is always part of the deal. ​If you want to submit, but need help finding a skilled editor, you can email us and we can point you in the right direction.

Express Proofreading

The editor uses the spelling and grammar check, but does not read line by line. This is great for when you don't have time to comb the project yourself, but know that it's already gone through rigorous editing by you or other editorial professionals.
  • $2.00 per page for pieces over 10 pages.
  • $20/hour for pieces under 10 pages.

Turnaround time: 1 Business day to 2 weeks depending on length.

Copy Edit

A copy edit covers spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage, tense, omissions, fact checking, style, structure, clarity, word choice, redundancies, and inconsistencies.
  • $3.50 per page for pieces over 10 pages.
  • $35/ hour for pieces under 10 pages.

​Turnaround time: 1-3 weeks depending on length.

Extensive Revision

Revision is needed for work that requires overhaul or a new direction. This is very close to a ghostwrite.
  • $10.00 per page for pieces over 10 pages.
  • $45/hour for pieces under 10 pages 

​Turnaround time: 2-6 weeks depending on length.

Standard proofread

A standard proofread includes correcting spelling, punctuation, capitalization errors, and awkward grammar. Proofreading finds minor typographical errors.
  • $2.25 per page for pieces over 10 pages.
  • $25/hour for pieces under 10 pages.

​Turnaround time: 3 Business days to 2 weeks depending on length.

Line By Line + Revision (Developmental Edit)

This is a developmental edit, which gives you everything in a line edit and includes a review of the entire story. Evaluates characters, consistency, clarity, structure, and themes.
  • $5.00 per page for pieces over 10 pages.
  • $40/hour for pieces under 10 pages.

​Turnaround time: 2-4 weeks depending on length.

Full Editing package

The professional editing package is reserved for full-length manuscripts. This includes three rounds of edits. First, we do a complete line+revision edit and return the manuscript to you to examine and change/approve the edits. Afterwards, we complete a line edit of the manuscript. It gets returned to you for approval. Finally, we do a proofread of the manuscript to clear up anything that I may have missed. It returns to you, in completion and ready for you to submit to publishers or agents.
  • $50 per 1,000 words
