Join the Movement

Every now and then, we bring on staff, short-term, long-term, and everything in between, for editorial, marketing, production, sales, PR, social media, and acquisitions. Hungry interns from undergrad and grad programs are welcome too! If you want to learn the ropes and survive on caffeine and passion, we’re your people.

Working at Unsolicited Press isn’t just a gig—it’s a labor of love. People stick around because the work matters: shaping the future of literature and giving writers the platform they deserve. When we can, we offer per-book pay or a slice of the press’s royalties.

But even if money isn’t always the draw, the perks are pretty sweet: book credit on the copyright page, copies of the books you help bring to life, discounted conference tickets (sometimes with sneaky backdoor access), chances to host virtual readings, invites to post-event drinks, in-depth publishing training, letters of recommendation, and—most importantly—honesty about an industry that usually hides behind velvet ropes.

People We Need In Our Lives

  • Unsolicited Press is on the hunt for a publicist to work closely with our authors and secure meaningful press coverage. In this role, you’ll have plenty of independence, so a strong focus and self-motivation are key. This position is remote, with team check-ins on Zoom every few weeks.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Developing and executing tailored publicity plans for our authors

    • Crafting press releases, press kits, and social media posts

    • Building and maintaining relationships with journalists to score media spots

    • Pitching fresh story ideas to the media

    • Coordinating readings, book signings, and other author events

    • Organizing and refining talking points for interviews and appearances

  • We’re seeking an experienced book sales representative to join our team. Unsolicited Press is entirely volunteer-run, but we’re open to a commission-based arrangement given the nature of this role.

The ideal candidate will have existing relationships with accounts. Our books are a hit in indie bookstores; we’ve simply grown and need an extra hand to pitch to the trade, including retailers, academics, and libraries.

  • Unsolicited Press is looking for editors with expertise in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. You’ll handle line edits, copy edits, and work within deadlines to help bring our books to life.

Experience is required (translation: no need for professional editing credentials, but we do need evidence that you can edit books). We welcome candidates from a variety of professional backgrounds—diverse perspectives are a big plus!

  • We are always on the look out for folks who can read submissions.

  • Unsolicited Press is looking for a creative, book-loving Social Media Manager to join our team and drive engagement across our social platforms. The ideal candidate has a passion for literature, an eye for design, and a knack for storytelling that brings books and authors to life online.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute social media strategies to promote new releases, events, and author achievements.

    • Create engaging content (text, image, and video) for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

    • Manage the social media calendar, ensuring consistent posting that aligns with our publishing schedule and marketing campaigns.

    • Engage with followers: respond to comments, messages, and share community content to build a dedicated reader base.

    • Collaborate with authors to develop personalized social media plans that match their brand and reach their audience.

    • Monitor trends in social media and publishing to keep our content relevant and exciting.

    • Track and analyze performance metrics to understand what resonates and adjust strategies as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in social media management, preferably in publishing or a related field.

    • Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends.

    • Excellent writing and editing skills with an eye for detail and a tone suited to our audience.

    • Ability to create visually appealing graphics and familiarity with design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

    • A love for books and the publishing world—bonus points if you know the ins and outs of indie publishing!

This is a remote position with flexible hours, but availability for team check-ins and content planning meetings is needed. If you’re passionate about connecting readers with great books and know how to make a feed shine, we’d love to hear from you!

  • We’re looking for a book marketing manager to join forces with our publicity team and lead marketing campaigns across multiple titles. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

    • Creating and executing dynamic marketing campaigns

    • Managing email communications

    • Developing targeted email campaigns

    • Leveraging our mailing lists to announce new releases

    • Crafting social media campaigns

    • Writing engaging sales materials

    • Identifying target audiences for each book

    • Setting up and managing ad campaigns
