Earth Day, but make it literary and less fucking wasteful

It’s Earth Day, which means we are all, for at least twenty-four hours, thinking about consumption, sustainability, and the accumulation of things we swear we meant to use. Including books.

We are a press that believes deeply in the physical object. We love a well-made paperback, a cover that earns its place, a spine that softens with use, a book that lives on your nightstand long enough to become part of the architecture of your life. We are not here to pretend otherwise.

And yet, there is something undeniably appealing about reading that does not require printing, shipping, taping, trucking, shelving, unshelving, and eventually wondering where exactly you are supposed to put everything. There is something elegant about a book that arrives without taking up space, without asking anything of the material world beyond your attention.

So for Earth Day, we are leaning into that contradiction instead of pretending it doesn’t exist.
