DAVE THE SPACE PET

from $24.95

“A cool premise.”

— Andy Weir, The Martian

On a rare night out, painfully nerdy accountant Dave is abducted from a dive bar bathroom by aliens he can’t communicate with. Convinced he’s been chosen for some cosmic purpose, he interprets training, collars, and playtime as signs of heroic destiny, unaware that he’s actually their pet. Dave, the Space Pet is a hilarious, tender inversion of the sci-fi adventure that asks what happens when being “chosen” means being cared for.

  • Dave The Space Pet is a wildly original premise sure to gain rave reviews with fans of speculative fiction everywhere – with dark comedy, big, in your face science-fiction ideas, and an unapologetically offbeat premise, Dave the Space Pet offers a fresh take on what it means to be human—by imagining life from the other side of the leash. First time author Rory AB Forrest is nothing short of brilliant in his debut offering that proves to be some of the most poignant satire to hit bookshelves in years.

    —Brendan Casey

  • “Dave the Space Pet is an engaging and imaginative exploration of the ethics of pet-keeping. Through alien abductions and interdimensional time-travel, we are invited to look anew at the bizarre behavior of humans who hold other animals captive for the sake of entertainment or emotional support.”

    — Dr. Jessica Pierce

  • “Intelligent and articulate in a very accessible way. I feel as if I’ve become acquainted with the young Kurt Vonnegut. [He] put [his] finger on the terrifying loneliness of being alive.”

    — John Lau

  • “It’s f*cking great. And a real head-twister. It had heart as well as vulgar laughs, which I’m all for. The whole thing threw up a lot of interesting ethical questions about animal ownership and rights, but managed not to be preachy. Very clever.”

    — Graham Horne

Meet RORY AB FORREST

Rory AB Forrest is a writer and filmmaker who originally hails from the world of advertising. He has won many national and international awards for his work on both sides of the pond and has spent his career learning the power in making complex subjects not only simple to understand but also exciting to engage with. Since learning that humans are 22 times more likely to retain information that is told in stories, he has now turned his attention to telling stories that matter. All his written work begins with a difficult subject our global community is ignoring and then finding the most exhilarating and accessible ways to bring that subject to life in fiction. Ultimately, he believes in the goodness of people, and our shared hope for a better world for all, the pleasure in the storytelling, is the journey that gets us there.
